5th Global Congress Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy is in the Books

The 5th Global Congress Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy was held in Cancun, Mexico on December 1-3, 2009 and has to be judged to have been a success.  There were over 800 attendees at the meeting, which in today’s economic climate is a feat in its own right.  The Congress organizers, Interpol, World Customs Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization, BASCAP (the International Chamber of Commerce’s anticounterfeiting arm) and the International Trademark Association are all to be congratulated.

There were a number of panel presentations that were, perhaps, a little too long and repetitive, but that comes with the territory of ensuring that high level government officials attend these Congresses.  One of the goals of these annual meetings  is to make sure that the issues of counterfeiting and piracy rank high on the agendas of government officials everywhere.  From this perspective, the 5th Global Congress was a success.
