How Strong Will New US IP Czar Be?

Widely expected, President Obama nominated Vitoria Espinal to the the US Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) on September 25th.  The post is often called the IP Czar, although this term likely confers a sense of greater power than the very worthy Ms. Espinal will actually have.  The operative word in her actual title is “Coordinator,” and anyone who has tried to coordinate anything in the federal government will realize how high the bar is here.  She will chair an interagency IP enforcement advisory committee made up of representatives from the Office of the US Trade Representative (where she formerly worked), the USPTO, the Justice Department, the Copyright office, etc., etc., etc.  Although highly regarded, we wonder if the new Czar will have any luck bringing these disparate agencies together.
